Water quality: Quality class II-III (critical load) for nutrients, year 2005
Landscape: The catchment is situated in the North German lowlands (70%) and in the in the German / Czech mountain region (approx. 30%)
Major tributaries: Vltava/Moldau (28.090 km), Saale (24.079 km), Havel (23.860 km), Mulde (7.400 km), Schwarze Elster (5.705 km), Eger/Ohre (5.614km²) *
Other large rivers in the catchment: Spree (9.793 km), Berounka (8.855 km²), Unstrut (6.343 km), Weie Elster (5.154 km) *
